On October 10, 2019, a wildfire started near Tower S2-5 between the Gould Substation and the Sylmar Substation in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County and consumed 8,000 acres of land before the fire was contained. Investigation determined that the wildfire was caused by improperly maintained lines and inadequate safety protocols that caused broken conductors at Tower SS-2 and allowed a power surge that erupted at Tower S2-5 and caused the fire. As such, litigation against Southern California Edison Company was initiated on October 7, 2022, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles. This litigation is currently in the discovery phase.
