Stutman Law obtains a $330,000.00 jury verdict along with an award of attorney fees after a weeklong trial against a Michigan Utility Company. The case was filed by Stutman Law to recover damages which were caused by a gas explosion that destroyed a residential home in Jackson, Michigan. On the morning of the explosion, natural gas had been leaking near a gas meter connected to the outside of a residential home. Consumers Energy, a Michigan utility company, was notified about the gas leak and was attempting to repair the leak when the explosion occurred. Consumers Energy denied all liability for the explosion and alleged that its leak repair procedures complied with industry standards as well as both state and federal regulations. Stutman Law, however, convinced a jury that Consumer Energy was responsible for causing the explosion after its employees knowingly entered a natural gas plume with spark-producing devices that ultimately initiated the conflagration. The jury not only awarded monetary damages to the subrogation plaintiff for the damage to the home but it also awarded attorney fees and damages to its insured for out of pocket expenses and other related uninsured damages.
