Jay Harker has over 30 years of civil litigation experience, primarily in insurance subrogation. His experience in subrogation includes wildfire, product defect, construction, aviation, transportation, fire, water damage, banking, trade services, insurance contribution and other matters. Jay has successfully tried matters in the state and federal courts. He has briefed and argued numerous matters on appeal.
Jay effectively draws from his background in civil engineering and experience with technical issues. He identifies grounds for recovery in matters that at first blush might appear to lack potential. Jay has recovered millions of dollars for clients in insurance subrogation matters, including one $2 million fire loss where his clients received full payment with pre-judgment interest.
Jay is admitted to practice in California state and federal district courts. He has practiced on a pro hac vice basis throughout the Western United States.
Jay graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in 1990, with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. In 1993, he graduated from the Boalt Hall School of Law of the University of California at Berkeley. While at Boalt, he served on the California Law Review and Moot Court Board, participating in school and national moot court competitions. Jay resided for two years in Mexico and two years in Argentina. He enjoys Russian, Spanish and volunteer teaching of English as a second language.
