On Labor Day weekend 2020, several wildfires broke out, including the Echo Mountain Complex Fire (Echo Mountain and Kimberling fires); the Santiam Canyon Fire; the 242 fire; and the South Obenchain fire. Each of the fires has a different origin and cause, with the common thread of involvement with the PacifiCorp utility power lines, typically through failure to deenergize its powerlines despite numerous warnings or to maintain encroaching vegetation. As such, litigation against PacificCorp dba Pacific Power was initiated on August 5, 2022, in the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon for the County of Multnomah, as an omnibus suit by combined subrogation carriers into the class action brought by individuals. This litigation is currently in the discovery phase.
