On December 5, 2017, a wildfire started near Kagel Canyon, four miles east of Sylmar in Los Angeles County. There were local eyewitness reports of electrical wires snapping and sending sparks at approximately the time the fire started, and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power logs indicated that power lines were experiencing trouble around the same time. As such, litigation against Southern California Edison and Edison International was initiated on May 17, 2021, in Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles. This litigation is currently in the discovery phase.
